The intention of The Gate and the Gatekeeper

The Gate and the Gatekeeper was created as a portal of sacred passage, discernment, and preparation. The artwork carries the energy of approaching the Divine with humility, openness, and a willingness to release what cannot cross the threshold with us. It holds the frequency of purification, boundaries, reverence, and the remembrance that sacred spaces ask something of those who enter them.

In the home, it becomes a visual anchor for inner work and conscious transformation. A piece to walk with as you untangle from old identities, trauma-based patterns, and the illusion of separation, while deepening your relationship with truth, integrity, and the sacred within.

Print size and presentation

The Gate and the Gatekeeper is reproduced as an 11" × 14" Fine Art Print on heavyweight 300gsm bright white paper, chosen to preserve the depth, saturation, and detail of the original artwork.

The paper has a refined matte finish and subtly textured surface that allows the deep tonal contrasts, symbolic details, and layered visual elements of the piece to remain rich without glare. Its surface is resistant to scratches and fingerprints, and each print is finished with hand-cut edges.

The artwork is printed without a border and arrives unframed, allowing you to choose the frame, mat, and presentation that best complement both the piece and your space.

The story behind the art

The Gate and the Gatekeeper was a powerful one. This piece took me a long time to paint because there were so many pauses. There were moments when I had a clear sense of what needed to come through, and it was as if the colors and brushstrokes were pouring out of me. Then there were other moments when I would sit in front of the canvas, dumbfounded and unable to even pick up the paintbrush.

I was going through my own internal process learning to trust life and the flow of life, within and without, and to understand that life does and will indeed support me. It was as if this piece took so long because I needed to learn what it was teaching me. The painting could not be finished until I had learned, or at least begun to understand, what was being asked of me.

This piece is about the Gates of the Divine Kingdom, the threshold all mystics talk about, coming face-to-face with Source and the embodiment of Source Consciousness. As the Bible says, "the kingdom of God is within you". The gates of the Divine Kingdom are always available and even visible to us, but to make it past the gatekeeper and enter, we must come to Great Spirit empty and pure of heart.

We must untangle ourselves the illusion of separation and from the identities and programs formed through trauma: the victim and the perpetrator, the villain and the hero, and the roles we learned to inhabit in order to survive. The work is to loosen our attachment to these identities and purify the heart until we can meet life again with the openness of a child.

The gatekeeper reminds us that sacred spaces require guardianship. What is sacred must be protected, respected, and cared for. Entry asks for boundaries, discernment, integrity, and a willingness to meet the threshold with reverence.

At the threshold of the sacred

For the one being asked to release what can no longer cross the threshold with them. The one untangling from old identities, inherited stories, and the illusion of separation so they can meet life with greater clarity, humility, and an open heart.

The Gate and the Gatekeeper carries the energy of sacred passage, discernment, and preparation. Hung in the home, it becomes a reminder that every threshold asks something of us: presence, honesty, reverence, and the willingness to arrive emptied of what no longer belongs. A piece to walk with as you deepen your relationship with the sacred, strengthen your boundaries, and remember that the doorway inward is always available.
